Aluminium Sulphate Solution
Conventional clarification of raw water supplies generally involves the removal of suspended colloidal matter through a combination of coagulation, flocculation & sedimentation.
Coagulation involves the neutralisation of the charge of dissolved & suspended particles in the water. When this occurs, the particles no longer repel each other & can then bind together through the process of flocculation, forming larger particles. These larger particles (or floc) are heavy & quickly settle to the bottom – a process called sedimentation.
Aluminium sulphate, commonly known as alum, is the most common general-purpose, an inorganic coagulant that is used in water treatment of water & wastewater for both domestic & industrial purposes.
Application: removal of turbidity (colloidal matter), phosphates from wastewater, coagulation of heavy metal contaminants (arsenic, chromium & lead)
