Oxalic acid (ethanedioic acid) is an organic compound from the dicarboxylic acid family, which is found in many plants. It is a reducing agent with major applications in textile finishing, rust stain removal & timber bleaching. It is most widely used as a cleaning agent to remove stains & rusts from metals, fabrics & wood surfaces.
It has also been used to remove calcium scale and rust from car radiators. Other applications include wastewater treatment and bore water treatment that have high iron bacteria and iron oxide contamination.

Oxalic acid can be used as a bore cleaner to remove the rust, manganese and calcium scale deposits which, left untreated, can increase maintenance problems and create unpleasant working conditions for operators.
It is an effective masonry or brick cleaner, removing rust and bore stains. It is also widely used as mild wood bleaching agent.
