Ferrous Sulphate Heptahydrate
Ferrous sulphate, also known as iron (II) sulphate, is used in a wide range of applications. It is a coagulant of choice for many industrial and waste-water treatment applications, especially as a sludge dewatering agent. In agriculture and horticulture, it is used as a fertiliser and as a soil pH amendment in high alkaline soils. It is used as a colourant in food and fabric dyes and to stain concrete and some limestone and sandstone. Other applications of ferrous sulphate include being used in gold refining processes to precipitate metallic gold from gold dissolved in aqua regia solution; in cooling water flowing through brass tubes of turbine condensers to form a corrosion-resistant protective coating.
