Potassium permanganate is a strong oxidiser that does not generate toxic by-products. Among its wide application, it is used in water & wastewater treatments to remove iron, manganese & hydrogen sulphide, eliminate tastes, odour and colour and controls algae growth. It is being looked at as a substitute for chlorination to prevent the formation of trihalomethane (THM) compounds. In aquaculture, it is used to control fish diseases & parasites while relieving oxygen depletion in fishponds. It is also used as a decolouring & bleaching agent in textile & tanning industries; as an aid in flotation processes in mining & for cleaning printed circuit boards.
